Project Maths
Project Maths, the new development in secondary maths education seeks to improve student's mathematical skill by using maths in realistic contexts and applications rather than in isolation. A tutor with experience of actual situations in engineering and business will be invaluable here
Specifically, Project Maths includes changes to the maths syllabus and to teaching methods.
There will be more statistics and probability and meaningful examples and applications will be used to develop student's logical reasoning and mathematical argument.
Better student engagement in mathematics is the goal of Project Maths. A tutor with experience of solving actual problems in business or engineering but with a firm grounding in all mathematical methods and notation is ideal.
Applied Mathematics
Applied Mathematics is a separate subject for the Leaving Cert. It is concerned with solving physical problems with maths. It is similar to both maths and physics. Students with a mathematical aptitude who have achieved an A or B in the Junior Cert higher paper may be interested in studying Applied Maths for the Leaving Cert. Applied Maths may be an efficient points earner and a preparation for university studies particularly in engineering.
Applied Maths classes can be organized in suitable locations where there is enough interest.
Physics
Physics is a fascinating subject involving the study of matter, motion force and energy. It is also a useful subject especially if considering a career in science or engineering. Maths is used to solve problems in Physics and parts of the Physics course are similar to Applied Maths.
I have also given tuition on Leaving Cert Physics to higher level. If you are having difficulty with this subject, one to one tuition or a small class can be arranged.
